PMC X-TAC 5.56 NATO Ammo: Reliable, Affordable for the Range

When it comes to ammunition, gun owners with a bit of experience realize PMC Ammunition delivers a quality product that is both reliable and affordable. This is true of the popular PMC .223 bronze ammo, and it is equally true of the PMC X-TAC 5.56 NATO ammunition.

Difference Between the PMC X-TAC 5.56mm NATO Ammo and the PMC X-TAC 5.56mm Green Tip Ammo

This article focuses on the 55-grain NATO ammunition, but you should realize PMC Ammo also manufactures a 5.56 cartridge that is 62 grains referred to as Green Tip ammo. There are similarities like the full metal jacket-boat tail design, a standard lead core bullet with a copper plating, a never-used brass casing, and a sealed primer.

Because this ammo does not contain steel, the 5.56x is noncorrosive. It also features a sealed primer to protect its operability even more.

5.56mm NATO

The 55-grain ammunition, which PMC labels 5.56x, is a full metal jacket bullet with a boat tail design. FMJ ammo does not expand when it hits a target as hollow points do.

Because this ammo does not contain steel, the 5.56x is noncorrosive. It also features a sealed primer to protect its operability even more.

Boat tail ammo has a tapered bullet toward the base. It got this name because the ammo looks like a boat’s stern. The tapered design offers greater accuracy because of less wind resistance for a more stable flight. This design also increases the ballistic coefficient.

The 5.56x has a muzzle velocity of 3,270 feet per second and muzzle energy of 1,306 ft. lbs.

5.56mm Green Tip

The 62-grain 5.56k is a light, armor-piercing bullet. Because it is a little heavier, this bullet moves a little slower, but it has a little more of a kick when it hits. The 5.56k muzzle velocity is 3,100 feet per second, the muzzle energy is 1,323 ft. lbs.

The 5.56k has a small, light, steel “penetrator” that makes it “light armor-piercing” ammunition.

The PMC X-TAC 5.56x45mm NATO Ammo is a Great Option for the Range

The ammunition pricing of the PMC X-TAC 5.556 ammo makes it a great option for plinking and shooting at the range. PMC manufactures quality ammo, and this 5.56k is designed to military specs.

Heavier ammo will cost you more, which adds to the benefits of the 5.56k ammo. Also, ranges will not allow steel-core or steel-tipped bullets (like the green tip with its steel “penetrator”) for indoor shooting. They will cause too much damage.

So, when you want to head out to the range, the X-TAC 5.56x will give you excellent accuracy at an excellent price. You will save on ammo costs with every round you shoot.

If you want something for hunting or serious self-defense, there are other options. When it comes to personal self-defense, you will have to worry about the bullet going through the subject and overpenetration. These bullets will easily pass through the walls of a home and an apartment (unless there is a firewall).

But, when you are looking for something safe, affordable, reliable, and accurate to shoot at the range, look no further than the PMC X-TAC 5.56 NATO line of ammunition.

Combination of Centerfire and Boxer Primers Mean Easier Reloading

The 5.56x45mm NATO ammo is centerfire rifle ammunition with a Boxer primer with a single flash hole that has a brass casing. So, if you like to reload, then the 5.56k is your friend.

When you shoot, you can reclaim the brass casings and have them available to hand load your ammunition. The performance of the brass will eventually diminish, but you should be able to reload the casings several times. The primer can easily be knocked off and removed so you can reload your ammo. Make sure to use the load data for the 5.56 ammo.

PMC Delivers High-Performing Ammo at Cost-Effective Prices

When the military called for a new ammo design in the early 1960s for the new M16, they were looking for something that was lighter (so more ammo could be carried), just as fast, and just as effective going through the side of a helmet and steel plate. The answer was the 5.56 NATO round.

PMC (Precision Made Cartridges) Ammunition’s supplier has a vertically integrated manufacturing system. The result is a system with excellent management of the production process, ranging from the sourcing of raw materials to the finished cartridges. This allows for quality control during every stage of the manufacturing process for the line of PMC X-TAC ammunition.

PMC manufactures its X-TAC 5.56 NATO ammo with high-quality components. All of PMC’s rounds are loaded in their state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. PMC sources the best raw materials available to produce its lines of quality ammunition.
